REVIEWS/THE FALL OF FYORLUND Book two of the Chronicles of Hawklan. For publication information and a synopsis, please see the corresponding pages.
Reviewed by Reinhold Michalak (Note: Originally written in German) The second book of the Chronicles of Hawklan shows Taylor's Talent for epic fantasy more clearly. Lord Dan Tor's strategy to usurp the capital Vakloss behind the ill king Rgoric with subtle manipulations of the law is splendidly told. Using only his soldiers the Mathidrin and not to use the old power of magic, Dan Tor is poisoning the Vakloss society until he reaches dictatorship. With the Mathidrin in Vakloss and terrible Mandroc armies in Narsindal he closes his hands for the total destruction of all Lords of the Geadrol. But counter plots of Hawklan and queen Sylvriss, wife of king Rgoric stop Dan Tor stronger and stronger reaching this goal. There are some excellent parts I think. One is the compete destruction of the castle of Lord Evison from an Mandroc army seen only from Hawklan through the remnants at the battle field. Taylor shows great talent in showing the growing danger for all countries from the evil country Narsindal. In comparison to the first book there is a lot improvement. But still I would not say it would be a page turner. |
